Students are spending this week learning how to use CHALK PASTELS or CONSTRUCTION PAPER CRAYONS to create TEXTURE on an owl drawing. We are discussing a painting by Nick van Frankenhuyzen, a Bath, Michigan painter who befriended an owl lovingly named Jackson. Using the painting of Jackson has students talking about what they see, what they think, and what they know about owls and the artwork. Take a look at the results!

https://www.donorschoose.org/project/13-ways-to-flex-our-artistic-muscles/2854600/ Young Fives students learn about different types of line then created Exploring Line artwork. They used oil pastels first to draw the different types of lines we find around us every day. Next, we used watercolor paint and painted over their pastel lines working not only on painting different lines, but also working on fine motor control. The results are fantastic! Check out the steps and progress we made while creating these pieces of art. Be sure to be looking for them in the hallway soon! Every year, all elementary art students create a self-portrait. Here is just a sampling of the fabulous work from our students. I hope you were able to enjoy the self-portrait brought home by your student(s) this past week!
