The artwork of 6 of our students were selected for this year's Ingham Student Art Exhibition! Their work will be professionally matted, framed, and be placed on the walls of the ISD for the year. The ISD will host a reception to honor these students and their artwork. Almost 300 were entered and only 50 were chosen...great job to all!

Once again, Discovery and Explorer students gave us their best when competing at our local Smokey Bear/Woodsy Owl poster contest sponsored by the Williamston Red Cedar Garden Club. With dozens of entries, the judges had a lot to consider. The following are our local winners! Congratulations to all who participated. all of the 1st Place finishers will be off to the State competition. Good Luck Artists!
Students learned about Pop Artist Wayne Thiebaud and his paintings of different pastries and goodies while working with Arts Integration Artist-In-Residence Liz Wylegala in the classroom and collaboratively designed over 30 tiered oil pastel cakes. At the same time students were learning about printmaking in their Visual Art class and created styrofoam prints inspired by classic diner fare. The prints were then combined to make five collage reminiscent of Thiebaud's rows and rows of pastries.
The artwork was on display and for sale through the running of Waitress and into the month of February. All proceeds go to assistance school groups with funding to send their students to performances at the Wharton Center. It is our pleasure to learn, create, and be part of a project that not only enhances student learning, exposes them to wonderful artists, but also allows students to give back to surrounding communities. |
