Youth Garden Club Sculpture 2018 | |
This year, 4th and 5th graders were given the opportunity to participate in the Youth Sculpture Contest which is sponsored by the Williamston Red Cedar Garden Club. I want to THANK the garden club for sponsor this experience for our students. The contest rules state the sculpture must be made out of recycled materials. Students used a variety of recycled materials such as caps, lids, straws, cards, tubes and other assorted treasures to create their sculptures. The results speak for themselves. We had over 100 students participate and over 50 chose to leave their sculptures to be judged by two local artists. I am pleased ad proud to announce the 2018 winners below. 1st Place finishers will have their sculpture entered into the state competition. The winning sculptures will be on display in the Explorer office so be sure to check them out. Friday, November 9thGreetings!
This year, I will be extending the deadline for the Original Works Fundraiser. We had bumps along the way this year and not all students were able to take their work home at the same time and I would like to give everyone the opportunity to participate it they would like to, so families will have until FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8th to get their order forms, money, and artwork into the office or the art room. The money raised goes to support the art program with consumable good purchases such as clay, glazes, and markers along with purchasing other materials that can be used over the years such as scissors, punches, and various supplies. Your support and generosity are greatly appreciated with over 830 students this year...all the funds are going to good use. Remember: DEADLINE: FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8th, 2018 CHECKS PAYABLE to: WCS Families! Last week (or even this week) students should have brought home their Original Works Self-Portrait. This is an annual project and opportunity for families who wish to order a product with their child's artwork on it. I am so pleased every year with the growth in drawing skills and self awareness the students bring to their work. It warms the heart. Here is a sample of some of this year's self portraits. This year we learned about 8 American painters from different parts of the country, different times in history, and different painting styles. Students work on creating a more realistic self-portrait as they get older drawing realistic eyes, nose, and mouth, then moving onto proper facial feature propositions. Each year, we build on our prior knowledge to move forward with honing our skills. |
