Deadlines | Families - There are several visual arts opportunities for your students during this time. Some classes have talked about them and even started them, others have not due to the numerous snow days. Please remember these are all voluntary and do require parental/guardian permission to participate. Below find a description of each opportunity and deadlines (note: Doodle for Google has been extended). Doodle for Google: Sponsored by Google Students must finish the sentence “When I grow up, I hope…” and then recreate the Google logo into illustrations that match the sentence. Here is last year’s winner using the sentence “I am inspired by…” it was won by 7- year old Sara Gomez-Lane. Entry forms can be picked up in the Art Room or downloaded from the Doodle for Google homepage (doodleforgoogle.com). Scholarship money and money for our school are part of the prizes for this contest. There are regional and age group winners. Meemic Masterpiece: Sponsored by Meemic Insurance Student can chose to create a piece of artwork using one of 3 themes. The artwork should be a minimum of 8x10 and no bigger than 16x20 and can be decorated with markers, crayons, colored pencils, or paint. Paper (choice of 12x18 or 9x12) and entry form can be picked up in the art room. Prizes are awarded to 50 students, with each student receiving a personal Chromebook as well as money for each student’s school art program. This competition is only open to students in Georgia, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan, and each entry must be submitted by a Meemic Foundation Member (which I am). The themes are:
MSU is looking for student artwork for the annual Fate of the Earth Symposium. Artwork should be related to humans’ relationships with the environment. Artwork can include drawing, painting, or sculpture. Accepted artwork will be displayed during the symposium and a few selected pieces may be featured on the symposium’s program and other materials. Paper (choice of 12x18 or 9x12) and entry form can be picked up in the art room. There are no awards for this art exhibition; however, last year, Williamston Community Schools had many pieces of artwork published in their program guide as well as on display. The symposium is open to the public and free to attend and will be held on Saturday, April 13 from 9am-5pm at the Kellogg Center on the campus of MSU. Lunch is included with prior registration.
